Killing floor 2 holdout1/13/2024 Objective mode is so much better because you actually need to do something instead of just camp in one spot. From the description it just sounds like survival mode without the boss wave at the end. Endless mode will be fun for a short while, but realistically it's not something most people will enjoy for very long. That's why I think objective mode would be the most important addition to the game by far. And if the locations are too small (like some of the Descent levels) it's just an annoying mess where you don't know what's happening around you because all you can see are explosions, raged fleshpounds and body parts flying around. The main problem isn't solved by that though - your team doesn't need to move, you just camp in one location until the wave is over. People need to adjust their play style to defend each spot properly and some spots are harder to defend than others. Holdout maps are a small improvement since at least you are forced to camp in different spots during each wave (or at least every 2-3 waves). That is boring and a waste of map space and gameplay potential. You only ever leave these spots if things go very wrong and people start to die, if you play solo or during the boss fight. On Tragic Kingdom it's the rollercoaster, on Prison it's the guard tower, on Outpost it's the truck section and so on. There is always one ideal camping spot on each map. I like them, simply because camping is boring to me. Holdout maps are basically a low-budget way of getting around the camping issue without having to create a full-fledged objective mode. That would've prevented the camping that's so prevalent in regular maps. Początkowo opublikowane przez Phillip:Really, what KF2 needed was to be objective-based, ala Payday 2. I know Holdout maps are probably easier to create, since at maximum its just 11 mini-maps, but come on, your greatest map thus far has been Tragic Kingdom, with the power and traps mechanic! Not angry, I'm just dissapointed with the choice of Powercore, and another unnessicary Holdout map. (I just found Powercore extremely unorigional and unfun, okay?)Īnyway, here's hoping that at least summer can give us a new standard map! (Or at least, the loyal and skilled custom map makers can make good maps in the meantime, I mean, look at how good MGS mall is! Its a standard map with some small objectives that you can do, while still playing as a normal map! How cool is that?) Beacuse if we get ANOTHER holdout map after this one, I will be extremely dissapointed in you Tripwire. From the little I played Powercore, I found it had even more boxed in areas, as well as awful fps, awful design, sounds that would make your ears bleed as if a siren was in them irl.Īlso, while on a tangent of custom maps, I can't beleive Zeds Diner didn't get in! Its origional, has no copyrighted things, and is quite fun to play and themed well. Overall, I just find Holdout maps more crowded and less fun to play, often having much worse gameplay than the standard maps. While I do consider this the best out of the current Holdout maps, I absolutely hate the mine level on the bottom! It makes Stand your Ground very hard when a fleshpound is kicking you out of the area! Additionally, the mine area is extremely easy to get surrounded in, as Zeds spawn everywhere it seems, and the only good place on that level seems to be the spilt level tracks, where you have some, albiet limited, escape options. Krampus Lair while it is more of a "Progression" map and not holdout, it still plays kinda the same, so I'll list it here for the sake of discussion. The spider room I found very disorienting, the war room (trenches) was too closed in and boxy (though the effects were cool), the Morgue/incinerator room is too closed in again. Nightmare was just as the name says, a nightmare to play! Most of the rooms are small, leading to the same problems as Decent, with the exceptions of the intro, second to last wave (the giant room which is my favorite part of the map), and the boss arena is actually big enough for a fair and ballanced boss battle. Multiplayer only made this problem worse, as you would literally get swarmed by dosens of Zeds in most of the rooms. I found it way too close-quarters for me. I'm really upset and dissapointed at the addition of yet ANOTHER Holdout map! Powercore by itself was an extremely bad map, and had so many problems to it, but let me address my problem here with Holdout maps.Īs much as I love Hans, I really didn't like the decent.
